House of Research: Zeynab Kirikou Gueye
April & May 2025
In cooperation with the residency and program venue Studio ALTA in Prague three artists are invited for a research residency in HELLERAU.
The interdisciplinary artist, DJ and sound designer Zeynab Kirikou Gueye uses the residency to further develop their performative project “Homecoming”. The solo performance “Homecoming” is based on storytelling through speech, movement and a semi-hybrid DJ set. What does culture mean for a person who was never fully embedded in an assumed one? How can one create a home in the liminality of being othered in most environments that supposedly nurture them? What power lies in a Black queer consciousness multiplied by racially distinct contexts? What if they just laughed and danced in the face of these elusive yet historically materialized questions? Zeynab Kirikou Gueye wants to share the nuances of learning about belonging through their embodied experience of returning to Senegal, a place of their ancestry.
In an open studio Zeynab Kirikou Gueye and Zuzana Šklíbová shared insights in their research and artistic practice.
