A whale meets a letter scale, a lioness meets gazelles, and we’re taking the train to Corte Nuovo! In the family concert presented by the Dresdner Komponistenklasse, the Klangkollektiv Opus Eins, conducted by Milko Kersten, will perform 15 new works composed by children and teenagers, including “Dolphins” (Linda Korndörfer), “My Salsa Song” (Sara Santos Schäffer), “Spring Is Coming” (Lisa Hubig), “Blue-and-White Striped Adiletten” (Eva Ceralova), and “404 title not found” (Manuel Timme).

The 9- to 19-year-olds composed their pieces for soprano, oboe, horn, viola, and electric bass/double bass with the support of Silke Fraikin, Johannes Korndörfer, Annette Schlünz, and Bernd Schumann, and rehearsed them together with the ensemble. The music is set to poems by Schiller and Ringelnatz, as well as texts the young composers wrote themselves.

Dresden-based conductor Milko Kersten guides the audience through the program and introduces the young composers and their musical ideas in short interviews.
