The young Tessenow, himself a temporary resident of the garden city, was a co-designer of the Gesamtkunstwerk Hellerau. From 1910, he planned numerous residential buildings and small apartments in Hellerau. He developed the “Tessenow wall” for rapid construction. His first major project, the Festspielhaus Hellerau, was built in 1911, transforming the visions of stage designer Adolphe Appia and music teacher Emile Jaques-Dalcroze into a spatial structure that impresses with its clarity and functional structure.

On the guided tour through the garden city and Festspielhaus, you can explore the range of Tessenow's work from traditional small houses to the Festspielhaus, which set the tone for modernism.

The approximately two-hour guided tour begins in the western side building with a model and then takes you on a tour of the Garden City and Festspielhaus
