“Lovedance” explores the theme of love from a queer perspective. As a counterpart to the lovesong, the team around Katharina Senzenberger embarks on a search for a lovedance that approaches love as an uplifting, soaring experience. The performance reflects on possibilities of being together and imagines new forms of connection and relationality.
The choreography draws from a collective archive of affective dance forms and romantic gestures, from Viennese waltz to pas de deux from the entertainment industry, which are embodied and questioned by the performers.
Oscillating between dependence and trust, leading and following, resistance and surrender, this duet engages in a practice of relation-making. It speculates on how layered and ambivalent our relationships can become. In a gently spectacular way, “Lovedance” settles onto cloud nine – unafraid to let expressive kitsch, confrontation, tenderness, rawness, drama, care, lightness, and utter sincerity overlap. Passionate togetherness unfolds as a subtle in-between state.
