Wagner X Freyer

A film-music project by Achim Freyer on Wagner's Ring cycle

The celebrated director, painter and stage designer Achim Freyer presents excerpts from an extraordinary film-music project for the Long Night of Dresden Theater. He combines large-format digital projections of his unique paintings with the monumental music of Richard Wagner's “Ring des Nibelungen”. The composer Jeffrey Ching has created a shortened, purely instrumental version of the Ring cycle especially for this purpose, which has been recorded by the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra. The complex surround sound system in the Main Stage of the Festspielhaus transforms the multi-channel studio recording into a special spatial sound experience. The projections and the immersive soundscape open up a poetic cosmos characterised by radical reduction and exuberant imagination.
