Founding histories of independent production houses in East Germany

At the beginning of the 1990s, a lively artistic activity developed on the Festspielhaus site. Theatres, festivals and associations were also founded in other places in East Germany, setting new themes and aesthetics. Detlev Schneider, one of the formative figures of the 1990s in HELLERAU, will give a talk on this period. This will be followed by a discussion with colleagues from various East German cities who initiated similar founding processes.

Invited speakers include Sven Schlötcke (Artistic Director of Theater an der Ruhr Mülheim, co-founder of Theaterhaus Jena), Sven Till (Artistic Director of Fabrik Potsdam), Anne-Cathrin Lessel (Artistic Director of LOFFT - DAS THEATER Leipzig) and Carena Schlewitt (Artistic Director of HELLERAU). The panel will be moderated by Kathrin Tiedemann, Artistic Director of FFT Düsseldorf, who was a journalist for Theater der Zeit in the 1990s.
