Dancing, playing, finding words
During this week we will combine hip hop, house, freestyle and storytelling with writing, painting and playing together. We will discover dance history and look at how dance has changed up until day. The workshop has a clear focus: empowerment, anti-racism and sensitising - we create a space in which everyone is seen, diversity is celebrated and togetherness is lived. Together we will develop our own moves, find words for our ideas and create poetry and freestyle - strong and creative.
The dance workshop is an open level course - previous experience is welcome, but not a prerequisite. Beginners are also welcome.

Biography

Valeska Skardie discovered hip hop 10 years ago with her friends during school breaks. Soon after, she founded "Authentics", a place where you could freestyle dance in Dresden. When she went to Chicago the following year, she discovered her passion for house. She keeps travelling to different events and workshops in the USA and Europe to learn house and hip hop from dancers and so-called OGs. Valeska has been building a community in Leipzig for years, e.g. by organising events such as Style Wild. She supports the next generation through the all-female crew Gems and through Klein Paris.
