Portrait: the choreographer Reut Shemesh

As part of the Jewish Music and Theatre Week 2021 and as part of the Education and Action Weeks against Anti-Semitism 2021

On the occasion of the anniversary year “1700 years of Jewish life in Germany”, HELLERAU presents a portrait of the Israeli choreographer and artist Reut Shemesh in cooperation with the Jewish Culture Days Dresden. The artist, who comes from Tel Aviv and lives in Cologne, deals with the particularities of her homeland, with images of women and gender roles in Orthodox Jewish and non-religious contexts.

Program

Thu 07.10. ATARA

The play ATARA questions the role of women and female sexuality within different social realities from the perspective of Orthodox and secular Jewish women.

Fri/Sat 08/09 Oct LEVIAH

LEVIAH presents a personal, vulnerable and courageous duet in which Reut Shemesh reflects on her time in the Israeli military.

Sat/Sun 09/10/10 COBRA BLONDE

In COBRA BLONDE, the choreographer scrutinises the tradition of German Gardetanz and examines the representation of female dancers – here in the role of Funkenmariechen – in the context of folkloristic Rhenish carnival celebrations.
