The Garden City Hellerau. A life reform project caught between utopia and contradiction

The Deutsche Werkstätten Hellerau, small cooperative houses, private country houses, artists’ settlements and the Festspielhaus as an icon of modernism – all of this can be found in the garden city of Hellerau. For a short time, this was the center of the European rhythmic movement. Countless representatives of the avant-garde came to visit the life-reform project on the green hill of modernism. Join us as we explore a history characterized by both utopia and contradiction.

The tour, which lasts about two hours, begins with a model in the western side building and then continues with a tour of the garden city and the Festspielhaus
