For many women, the desire to have a child is something they take for granted. But what happens when this desire becomes impossible due to legal regulations and other restrictions? In her piece, Polish choreographer and dancer Renata Piotrowska-Auffret addresses this question and takes a look at the relationship between professional and private life. She uses her own experiences as well as those of other women as inspiration for this dance performance. In ‘The pure gold is seeping out of me’, she examines the web of reproductive strategies, multiple promises and the attempt to exploit the desire to procreate.

Renata Piotrowska-Auffret is a choreographer and artist. In her work she combines experimental dance, performative arts, dramaturgy and theatre. She explores the relationship between body politics, the private and the public as well as between text and movement – often inspired by autobiographical experiences. Since 2014, she has been working on the series Private Pieces, in which she explores female body politics, including in pieces such as ‘The pure gold is seeping out of me’ and ‘Uteri Migrantes’. Her works have been shown at renowned festivals throughout Europe. Piotrowska-Auffret was an Aerowaves Priority Artist in 2017 and 2019. She studied at the Theatre Academy in Białystok and on the ex.e.r.ce master’s programme in Montpellier.
