Sound – Song – Dance

In 2020, HELLERAU is once again the venue for the major spring project of the Saxony State Youth Orchestra (Landesjugendorchester Sachsen). The three works of the evening, all written for the concert hall, this time get a special flair by combining music with dance. Three choreographers deal with one of the three musical works and interpret it in their very own way. In this way, music and movement unite to form a space-filling production in keeping with the HELLERAU spirit.

Since 1992, the Saxony State Youth Orchestra has been the contact point for ambitious young musicians from Saxony, many of whom are at the beginning of a professional musical career. The 14-26 year olds are talented young musicians from the classical music scene of the Free State of Saxony and have won many “Jugend musiziert” awards. In two rehearsal phases a year, the artistic director Prof. Milko Kersten and constantly changing guest conductors rehearse programmes at a professional level that cover all stylistic areas.

The musicians work together with teachers from renowned Saxon orchestras such as the Staatskapelle Dresden, the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig or the Robert-Schumann-Philharmonie Chemnitz. The young talents gain an insight into the working methods and procedures of a professional musician’s everyday life.

The energy that is generated becomes almost tangible at the concerts. The LJO Sachsen has not only inspired its audience in Germany, but also in Poland, Russia, Hungary, Italy, Great Britain, Cyprus, the USA, South Africa, China, Karelia and Peru. Several CD recordings have succeeded in making this event come alive not only in the concert hall.
