with Tanasgol Sabbagh
Tanasgol Sabbagh’s words stick with you. They are precise, insistent and full of rhythm. Having grown up in Germany, the Iranian artist has been performing spoken word texts on stage since 2011 – sometimes poetic, sometimes political, always powerful. With a bachelor’s degree in Oriental Studies under her belt, she tackles racism, sexism and human rights. But her texts are more than criticism – they are also memories, feelings and questions. At Jazz Edition Radebeul, her voice meets handmade music, and we let ourselves be drawn into her maelstrom.
Tanasgol Sabbagh presents her literary works in performances, audio pieces, video installations and musical collaborations. She is co-founder of the artist collective parallelgesellschaft and the event series of the same name, which deals with political art outside of German dominant culture. Together with the poet Josefine Berkholz, she is the founder of the auditory literary magazine Stoff aus Luft: a format that emphasises spoken and sound-based literature. Tanasgol lives in Berlin.
