Dresdner Lyric Prize 2024
Award ceremony & concert with Baby Sommer & Anna Fliegerová
Since 1996, the city of Dresden has awarded the German-Czech Dresden Poetry Prize every two years. It is awarded to poets who write in German or Czech, whose poems fulfil high artistic standards and who live in member states of the European Union. In an intensive professional exchange, the binational jury agreed on the finalists for the Dresden Poetry Prize 2024. Petr Borkovec, Kamil Bouška and Bohdan Chlíbec as well as Ozan Zakariya Keskinkılıç, Georg Leß and Dana Ranga were nominated.
The high literary quality of the nominees’ work as well as the development and originality of their poetry were the main deciding factors in the assessment. The German-speaking jurors Nadja Küchenmeister, Katharina Schultens and Hans Thill wanted above all to generate ‘attention for the unseen, for works that stand in the shadows’. For the Czech jurors Wanda Heinrichová, Radek Malý and Pavel Novotný, ‘the contribution that the authors’ recitation or performance skills could make to the overall impression of the text on the audience’ and the “tonal/musical/melodic qualities of the text” also played an important role.
The grand finale of the German-Czech Culture Days will take place with an award ceremony on 03.11. in HELLERAU. A special highlight of the award ceremony is a 45 minute long concert with the Dresden percussionist Günter Baby Sommer and the Czech musician Anna Fliegerová in the first part of the evening.
