With “Chapter 3: The Brutal Journey of the Heart” the world-famous Israeli choreographer Sharon Eyal shows the third and last part of her trilogy of love with her company LEV (Part 2 was shown in February 2019 in HELLERAU). The nine dancers embark on an intense, intoxicating journey through the ups and downs of human relationships. Explosive body whirls and precise ballet quotes alternate with light, ironic voguing passages, always encompassed by Ori Lichtik’s live mixed sound cosmos. In contrast to the previous parts, this one consists less of cool technoid sounds than of a kind of electronically transcended folk and blues music, forming a warm, wide-spanned cosmos for the dancers. The individually painted costumes by Dior chief designer Maria Grazia Chiuri, reminiscent of the finest body tattoos, reinforce the impression of the dreamlike and sensual. Together with her long-time collaborator Gai Behar, Eyal has thus created a hopeful, almost optimistic conclusion to her trilogy of love. “Chapter 3: The Brutal Journey of the Heart” celebrated its acclaimed world premiere at the Ruhrtriennale in September 2019.

“…things get broken, and sometimes they get repaired, and in most cases, you realize that no matter what gets damaged, life rearranges itself to compensate for your loss, sometimes wonderfully.”
