Theater Performance

Kornél Mundruczó and his Proton Theater present a highly energetic and political production of Vladimir Sorokin’s novel “Ljod. The Ice”. In contemporary post-Soviet Moscow, a mysterious sect is hunting for people who possess a “living heart”. Only those of its kidnapped victims survive whose hearts begin to “speak” after being hit with an ice hammer.

Vladimir Sorokin’s novel seamlessly joins the ranks of great Russian utopias about the role of a purified humanity. The adaptation by theatre-maker Kornél Mundruczó reveals relentlessly crazy social structures and the desperate search for orientation. “Mundruczó’s oppressive nightmare touches on the roots of totalitarianism. But above all he shows the most vital theatre.” (Ronald Pohl, DER STANDARD, 4.6.2010)
