Black Box White Cube XR

Following the international congress "BUILDING BRIDGES - Latest Findings in Artificial Intelligence" (11 & 12 September 2025), another exciting event focusing on current digital transformation processes will take place in HELLERAU on 5 October: In addition to the publication of a catalogue documentation of the symposium BBWCXR - Black Box White Cube XR (2024), current and extraordinary 3D audio projects developed in an open call and residency project of the Spatial Audio Network Europe (SANE) with partners such as ZIMMT (Leipzig), INTORNO LABS (Barcelona), Music Innovation Hub (Milano) or 4DSOUND (Amsterdam) will be presented.

Immersive 3D audio technology has become a driver of innovation in art, science and industry in recent years. The technology enables the creation of acoustic and virtual realities and opens up new dimensions for listening and concert experiences. Following an open call by the SANE network, innovative artists were selected from numerous international applications for residencies and concerts, which will now also be presented at HELLERAU after the first concerts at EFFENAAR Eindhoven (7 & 10 September 2025).

The documentation BBWCXR - Black Box White Cube XR presents the HYBRID Biennale 2024 symposium curated by Maria Chatzichristodoulou and Bika Rebek with its multi-layered contributions, insights and impulses. With the support of the German Federal Cultural Foundation, the symposium brought together numerous artists and researchers who explored the opportunities and risks of extended reality (XR), the relationships between human and non-human bodies and between space and technology in various discussion and presentation formats, workshops and installations.
