The pitch format is borrowed from the film industry, where it is used to briefly and conciesly present screenplays or film projects to potential producers and clients. Transferred to contemporary dance, pitching now takes place at international dance festivals with much success.

In 2012, the German Dance Platform will for the first time enable ten choreographers and artists to give a specialist public insights into their work within a 30 minute time slot. Completed works, video excerpts or project drafts can be presented. This format is intended to promote communication between organizers and artists in an informal manner.
