The voice in new music

Dresden Vocal Forum 2019

An event by and in the Hochschule für Musik Carl Maria von Weber Dresden from 10 am – 4 pm

Musik Gespräch

This year’s Dresden Stimmforum is dedicated to the theme of “The voice in new music” and aims to bring together those professions that are involved in the processes of creation and practical performance as well as in the singing and vocal pedagogical aspects of new music. In lectures and roundtable discussions, compositional visions, vocal diversity and vocal physiological limits will be discussed in an interdisciplinary discourse and put together with experiences from the practical implementation of new music. The lecture on new, world-related music for voice(s) in the 21st century in cooperation with the festival TONLAGEN Dresden-Hellerau provides a special platform for the social aspect of voice.

AuditivVokal Dresden: The original modern sound ensemble stands for reformed performance practices and everything but ordinary concerts. The artistic work of Olaf Katzer, who founded the ensemble in 2007 and has been its director ever since, focuses on vocal research and the search for new contexts by linking science, politics and art. Initiatives such as the “Neue Dresdner Vokalschule” have established the ensemble’s excellent reputation. The ensemble sees it as a central task to explore the possibilities of new and newest ensemble music and to shape the present and future of vocal music-making. The “Neue Dresdner Vokalschule”, in close cooperation with composers, sees itself as a living instrument for performing existing, complex and advanced works as well as new compositions.
