For the duration of the festival Karussell, HELLERAU is awarding three residencies to composers from Russia. In cooperation with the Elektroteatr Stanislawski in Moscow and with Dmitry Kourliandsky, composer and director of the International Young Composers Academy in Tchaikovsky, Darya Zvezdina (*1990), Oleg Gudachev (*1988) and Kirill Shirokov (*1990) were selected. Together with these young composers* and some of their latest works, the A&C String Quartet will be guests in the Tuesday Salon of the Dresden artist and presenter Max Rademann.

The A&C String Quartet – where A&C stands for “Ancient and Contemporary” – was founded in 2016 at the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory by some of Russia’s best young musicians who have each won numerous music competitions. The current members of the quartet include Gleb Khokhlov and Slava Chirkunov (violin), Anton Khlynov (viola) and Yulia Migunova (cello). Since 2017 the quartet has concentrated on the performance of contemporary music. In 2019 A&C, in cooperation with the Stanislawski Electroteatr and the Theatre of Nations, organized the two concert cycles “Spectral Music” and “Music of Continents”, in which the quartet presented both Russian and world premieres.
